RESTITCHING CHARLOTTESVILLE

Professor: Anthony Averbeck

Spring 2017

PROMPT

Situated between two socioeconomically juxtaposed regions of Charlottesville, this building connects a subsidized housing complex to a mixed-use apartment building. By creating two pixelated bars of housing, a central corridor runs between the two areas, effectively “restitching” the once detached areas of the city.

PROGRAM

The central corridor is connected laterally by a series of perpendicular passageways that bleed under the residential floors while rooftop gardens provide refuge from above. The first floor is populated by four cores and commercial space that encourages public functionality while private residencies can look on from above.
